New Year, New Introductions!

 Hiya guys!

So it's gonna be the new year soon (Did anyone else think 2012 was kind of annoying or is that just me?)! Here at Go Lovely headquarters we've been brainstorming tons of things we're revving our keypads up to post about. We'll be introducing additional new segments and series to our regular posts! So exiciting!

What To Expect More Of: Makeup segments, Get-The-Looks, Hair segments, Music reviews, Lifestyle posts, Ask Go Lovely

Music: We're so excited to be adding music posts to our blog. Ms. Sam and I have been compiling various artists from all around the world and from all reaches of time to present to you an eclectic taste and list of sounds. We've got up-and-comers, the kings and queens of music, classics, indie, off beat, antifolk, folk, rock, pop, R&B, and really, everything in between! Not only will we be introducing artists to you, we'll be reviewing albums of pretty well known musicians as well!

Get-The-Look: Get-The-Look articles are adding up to be extremely fun for both Sam and I. We'll not only be doing celebrity looks, we'll be doing character (in which we pick characters from stories and movies and put together an affordable, modern look based off of them), adjective (where we'll create an affordable look to go along with a descriptive word i.e. "sweet" "mysterious" "edgy"), and event (this is where we'll put together yet again MORE affordable looks for any event we can come up with or upon your request- "homecoming", "first date" etc.)

Makeup: I'm stoked that I will be putting up makeup segments! I'll be showing you how-to's, my favorite products, tips on application, and so much more! PLUS you can count on that fact that all of the products I will be using will be affordable, of good quality, and most likely sold in a store near you!

Hair segments: Sam has got so many things in store for this! She'll be presenting to you her favorite products, what products work best for certain looks, how-to's, and other goodies!

Lifestyle: Lifestyle posts are certainly articles I'm looking forward to. We'll be talking about how to/how we deal/dealt with life, people, and basically everything. Ahhhhh teenage angst. We know. We'll be posting these a little spread out and we'll not only be doing personal experiences, but you guys can send in your personal experiences!

Ask Go Lovely: Interacting with you guys is going to be big in the Ask Go Lovely articles. At the end of each month we'll be answering 10-20 of your questions from either the comments or our email (go.lovely101@gmail.com if you were wondering). You can ask about anything from things we post to what kind of emoticon we like best. Really get creative!:)

Welp, there you have it! We've got good horizon ahead of us for the new year. Sam and I are excited to see all the changes 2013 has to bring to the world and we're looking forward to getting to know you guys better. For now though, from both of us here at Go Lovely, we wish you all a fantastically wonderful new year and we hope you all had a wonderful Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa!

Quick Tip: How to wear prints!

Hey lovelies! Sam and Natalie here, to tell you all about print!

So don’t get me wrong, I love print- But when it gets to the point where I’m wearing a leopard bodysuit (in public) to try  and get my point across, that’s where I draw the line! Here's a few tips on good way to wear prints!

So the first few pictures are of what a good combination might look like: A sleek black dress, black leggings, and a faux fur leopard print coat! Why this outfit is so cute, is because we're pairing the flashy print with solid color!

Tip! When you’re wearing print, add neutral colors to make it fashionable, instead of chaotic!

Now, instead of the whole leopard print bodysuit idea, woman in the photo below pulls off a good variation of that! Still a full suit of print, but it’s really a dress! If you want to wear a printed dress, go for it girl! You could pull something off like this! If you'd like a bit more, pair it with minimal (really minimal) accessories and a single pop of color!

With the outfit below, you could add a pop of color in a headband, nail polish, shoes, or a single chunky bracelet! But remember, ONE single pop of color that is on ONE item, not all. The only exception is nail polish, but that should also be the same single color as your item of choice!

Overall, wear what you like! How you dress is a part of your personality, so express it with your style! I hope you learned a few things from this quick tip, and if you have any ideas or questions for us leave a comment, or send us an email at go.lovely101@gmail.com that’s all for now lovelies! Talk to you next time!

What Colors Look Best On Your Skin Tone

Hiya, Lovelies!

Color is one of the biggest statements. It can not only describe a personality, it reflects mood, makes or breaks your complexion, and when worn correctly, can make you feel like a rockstar. I think anyone can wear any basic “name color” (i.e. green, blue, red, orange, etc.); it’s just the shade that trips us up.  Your complexion may look better in a certain shade of a color than someone else and vice versa.

YES I KNOW THAT BLOUSE IS TOTALLY YOU
YES I KNOW YOU JUST NEED TO HAVE IT
BUT THE COLORS IT COMES IN
WILL NOT WORK WITH YOU.

People sometimes ask what makes me boost my confidence when I’m feeling blue (see what I did there?? Eh, eh? No? Ok.). Well, I found out what colors I look and feel good in, and that changed everything. What I’m really happy about, though, is I look good in red. And not just any red; scarlet to be exact. I know for a fact that navy blue and I are not on good terms seeing as I don’t have the right complexion, it makes me look sick (especially in fluorescent lights. BLEH).

To try and find which colors look best on you, we have to go back and remember if you’re skin tone is warm or cool. This is extremely easy to do. Just pin your hair back into a pony, making sure all hair is out of the face. Remove all makeup and grab a white towel. Place the white towel under the bottom of your jaw and in front of your neck (the pure white of the towel reflects the undertones of your skin). If gold, yellow, or any sort of beige reflect, you have a warm skin tone. If pink, red, blue, or purple reflect, you have a cool skin tone. You could also try a scarf method by taking a orange or pink cloth/scarf and determining which looks better against your skin. If you look best with the orange, you’re a warm tone; for pink, you’re a cool tone.

If you don’t want to do all that though, just take a look at the veins on your wrist. If your veins are blue or blueish, you are a cool skin tone. Greenish or yellowish veins indicate a warm skin tone. Or, if you've read our other article “The Perfect Shade of Red”, the method we use there to determine your perfect red lipstick color can work just as well.

Here is a guideline chart to give you an idea of the types of shade you should go for based off of your tone:

WARM SKIN TONES:
  •  Orange
  •   Brown
  • Olive Green
  •   Peach
  • Tangerine
  • Red (Try it with tomato red undertones)
  •  Dusty Blue
  •  Canary Yellow
  •   Lavender

COOL SKIN TONES:
  •  Baby Pink (along with rose or blush)
  •  Lavender
  • Red (With cherry red undertones)
  • Light blue
  • Coral
  •   Yellow
  • Royal Purple
  • Mint/Sage Green

Cool Skin Tone Color Pallet

Feel free to play with the color pallet and mix and match to see which look great on you because you’ll be able to find a plethora of more color shades you can look fab in!

However, on a side note,I believe there are two neutral colors that I think look absolutely gorgeous on any tone: black and cobalt blue. As far as I've seen (and there hasn't been anything to prove me wrong about this) both colors compliment either skin tone and you can’t go wrong with them!

Now before I forget to tell you, lighting is also important in this process. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT TRY AND FIND WHAT COLORS LOOK NICE ON YOU IN FLORESCENT LIGHTS. You will be sorry and you will cry and feel sad and just don’t do it OK? The best lighting is either natural sunlight or vanity lighting (think showgirl mirror lighting) . Natural lighting will show what your skin tone and the color will be like in the majority of places you will go. As for vanity lighting, it should emit a warm, glowy shade of light, which I really like, that show a bit more detail. They flatter the best and, on another note, are the ones you should be applying makeup in.

So there you go! I hope that this post answered a few of your questions and informed you about color. Remember, knowing what colors work with you and which ones don’t will help you out in the long run. Once you know, you can make wardrobe decisions based on this and you won’t ever have to ask again “Does this color work?”. One step closer to ALWAYS having a go to outfit. Huzzah's and Yay's all around!

Stay kind!

QUICK TIP SERIES: How To Clean Up Your White Shoes/Converse

Hey there, lovelies! It’s Sam again, here with a quick tip!

Now we all mess up our white shoes like converse or vans, but what is a way to clean them up so they look good as new? There are three ways that I found working the best (Not for suede, of course)!

  1. Clorox Wipes (or any other wipe with bleach!) Not only do Clorox wipes get rid of dirt and bacteria, they also whiten your shoes to make them look new!
  2. Whitening Toothpaste and an Old Toothbrush! All you have to do is add toothpaste to the tips of your converse, and brush them like you brush your teeth! Not only will the look clean- they’ll smell minty fresh!
  3.  A Bucket of Water, Tide and a Sponge! This may sound old fashioned, but it works really well! Just take the shoe laces off, throw your shoes in the bucket, and scrub till’ your fingers prune! Make sure the tide doesn't have bleach so you don’t ruin the fabric! This method also gets rid of that nasty gym sock smell!

Hope you learned something from this!

            See you next time lovelies!

Lip and Skin Tips for Winter!

Hiya Lovelies!

It’s winter- the harshest season on our lips and skin! The dryness of this season quickly sucks up all the moisture, causing chapped lips and cracked skin –ouch! Luckily, you have me here to tell you an easy way to get soft, moisturized, exfoliated lips and the best lotions to use during this season to get your skin back up to its best!

The Lips: All you need for this is a toothbrush, a washcloth, and your favorite moisturizing lip balm.
  1. Take your washcloth and wet a small corner of it under warm water. Take it and lightly pat against your lips to dampen them.
  2. Take your toothbrush and also run this under warm water. Rub your toothbrush in small, slow circles around your lips. This is exfoliating all the dry, dead, cracked skin! Remember to be very gentle, otherwise you could over do it!
  3.   Now, take a dry corner of your washcloth and lightly pat your lips to dry them.
  4.   Apply lip balm a minimum of 1-2 coats, depending on how greasy and heavy its consistency is. If it’s a lighter balm, go for about 1-3 coats; if it’s heavier, stick to 1-2 coats.

Viola! Super soft lips that are moisturized and exfoliated to face the rough winter months ahead.

The Skin: During this time of year, our skin can really start to dry up. If we don’t use the proper lotion, we can start to see dry flakes and cracks (some of which bleed- eek!). Our skin can start to feel tight and cause us pain if we try and move. I've compiled a few tips for lotion to help heal your skin!
  1.  Stick to lotions that have either Shea, cocoa, or almond butter. These are the best things for making skin smooth, moisturized, and tight (but not in a bad way! Plus they smell amazing!)
  2. Don’t over apply! If you over apply a lotion (especially after a hot bath- hot water opens up pores in the skin!) you could clog up the pores in your skin causing irritation and greasy residue caused by overload.
  3. Don’t under apply! Some people are afraid of the above, so they end up applying way less than they should be out of caution. Under applying is basically a quick fix, and can’t keep dryness at bay.
  4. Stick to about 1-2 pumps minimum per limb. This is a good starting range. After applying your 1-2 pumps minimum, you can tell if your skin needs more by simply checking to see if it has a greasy residue or if it still feels really dry. After checking, apply 1 pump extra until skin feels moisturized, but not greasy.

Well, there you go! Hopefully this will really help you this winter! We’d love to hear in the comments or at our email (go.lovely101@gmail.com) what tips you guys have and how these ones worked out for you, if you have a question, or what you’d like to see more of here at GoLovely. Also, if you’re feeling nice, please subscribe to be up to speed with all the new articles we’ll be posting! We love you all to pieces!

Jewelry Talk!

Hey lovelies!

Ok something I totally hate! Untangling my jewelry!! Doesn’t it just drive you crazy when all your jewelry is in one big knot and you have to throw on that cute necklace right away? Well here’s a great way to organize your jewels- and have them on display!

Ok step one, when buying jewelry, don’t take more than you need! Remember this tip when you’re buying jewelry “Jewelry is my accessory, not my outfit!” You want to wear the jewelry, not have it wear you!

Step two, when you start to sort through your old jewelry, only keep what you wear! I know it’s crazy hard to let go of a piece of jewelry that you love- but if you are never going to wear it again why keep it? Now say if it was in your family for years you should either keep it or give it to a family member so they can wear it!

Step three; make sure you have a large and empty space on your wall! Start putting in tacks or other hangers to hang necklaces, bracelets, rings or some of your hoops! If you don’t want to damage your wall with tacks, hang them on a pin board!

You can use your jewelry box for all of the things that you don’t want to pin up on display. It makes it easier to grab, it’s well organized and crazy pretty!  Here’s a photo for inspiration!

Talk to you next time lovelies!

~Sam
